Illustration Friday - Signs

My sketch this week is about the Signs of aging

We scrutinize our face for all the little signs. The Beauty industry is booming, advertisers make us believe that if we buy their products then miracles will happen and sadly we do get sucked in. Then we have this crazy obsession about not getting old, people are rushing to get botox, fillers, peels and ...gulp.... face lifts! What next!?

I think I was greek in a past life. I need some honey balls from below!!! You know how I know I was Greek in a past life? I could eat spicy lamb meat and tzatziki first thing in the morning. I could eat garlic and onions all throughout the day too. No wonder I had a Greek man in my life for sooo many years...

As for aging. All I can say is, there is something to be said for aging naturally and gracefully. I think it is better to look a bit aged than to look aged with some strange scars pulling you up and sideways from your 55th facelift. But, that is just me....xxo

i have been thinking about this lately... how we see the signs of aging in ourselves and others and what that means. to myself i still look the same but i guess the little signs are there... i see them in my older relatives, my beautiful grandmother with her wrinkles and it looks like wisdom! hope i age as gracefully as she did! xo

  11. Beautiful sketch. I think that women look like they need to be treated more respectfully and gently when they are wrinkled. I never get that feeling when they are pulled up tight!

I was just watching a programme the other day that expensive designer skincare products does not mean that it works better, but then we all know that already? Great sketch, love the details.

  14. Very nice sketch. I know just what you mean. I'm getting my hair done on Tuesday as part of the make-myself-feel-and-look-good-for-job-hunting makeover, but also to get rid of all the grey caused by the last few months of stress! Help me! I am succumbing to self-agism ;) lol

  15. haha seems like we are all a little concerned about growing old...the best thing I guess is to stay out of the sun or wear sunblock...its the only thing that works!

This is a wonderful sketch. I like how the head is tilted, too, it gives it a different feeling than just a straight on view. As for aging, I remember a time when I met a very old woman downtown one day when I was in my late teens. I was on a photo assignment for a class at art school. She was so old and so beautiful. Her face was a mass of wrinkles, but I thought she was beautiful. She had a kind, friendly face. She wouldn't let me photograph her, but I have remembered her all these years later as I am myself starting to get wrinkles. I am going to age gracefully and naturally. I think that is preferable to looking like a plastic doll with lopsided features. At least I will only look old instead of deformed, too.

Pity those who only have time to view the less than perfect shell that encases a soul that that is getting closer and closer to perfection.....
