Illustration Friday - Alphabet
When I was 6 my parents enrolled me
in Greek school classes so twice a week after school I had to do another two hours of Greek school work ...we had to learn a whole new alphabet from alpha to omega...gosh I hated going but I guess it paid off as I now know how to speak, read and write Greek!
alpha beta gamma delta......

A self-portrait! I wish I knew two languages, lucky girl! :-) Cute drawing!
Very sweet...lovely memory.
so cute!! i would send fiona to argentinian school if it existed here!
i hated to go to english classes and i can say it has paid off too.
How sweet and charming!
This is lovely. Growing up with 2 languages is difficult (my kids will attest to that), but what an advantage.
Such a wonderful memory and drawing!
That's so impressive. Hey, I can sing the Greek alphabet. We did that in our sorority in college.
Your post today made me smile. I too remember many afternoons spent in Greek school in sunny South Africa. I now live in another sunny place-San Diego. I've been reading and enjoying your blog for many months, drawn to it at first by its name. My youngest daughter is also an Anastasia:)
Wonderful, it's always useful to know more than one languages. LOVE the cute drawing!
My mother did the classics and so can read "ancient" Greek and also Latin, I tried Latin but it's so confusing! I can just about manage a little bit of pigeon-spanish, but that is it! Love the drawing (reminds me of me!).
You see!!! Yes, I am glad too!! Who else would I talk to above Keftedes and my old moromou.... xxo
wonderful illo!
i wish learning more than one language was more important to americans. we usually take french or spanish, maybe german or italian in high school but overall the instruction is not great.
you are lucky to speak greek!
i am envious! i never learned to speak hindi and that has always been one of my regrets... took a class last year but it is HARD to learn as an adult!
xox
awww thanks for all your comments...it is a nice memory although at the time it felt a drag...but most things are like that, you can only appreciate many years later!
