Happy Mothers Day weekend

There is no perfect way to be a Mother but a million ways to be a great one.

Being a Mother is not what you gave up to have a child, but what you gained from having one.

Motherhood has the greatest potential influence in human life.
(no pressure...ha-ha)

Mothers! even when they are wrong they are right...

A Mother always thinks twice, once for herself and once for her child.
Happy Mothers Day!

Vintage Style icon: Marilyn Monroe

I spent my day off yesterday catching up on my taped TV shows.
I wouldn't consider myself a TV addict but I must admit its always on when I'm home....it keeps me company!
I'm usually multitasking whilst watching - folding laundry, crafting, ironing or flicking through magazines so it’s not really a waste of time, is it!?

Last week I taped a documentary about
Marilyn Monroe –  she was such a bright eyed beauty!

Its hard to believe it's been 50 years since she died - so very young...
A Hollywood legend...we all know her story - the sad lonely childhood, the yearning to be loved, liked and respected, the broken marriages, the fertility problems, the weight gains, the pill popping, the affair rumours and then her tragic death at only 36 years of age...all so very tragic.

but although her life was cut short, her legacy will live on and she will always be a beauty and style inspiration to so many.
There are gorgeous images of Marilyn  on Pinterest, I think she's one of the most popular Hollywood stars that will always be remembered...

I restore myself when I'm alone.

Catherine - Elle est Cool!

Im going to have a little French inspired weekend on my blog, being Bastille Day in France tomorrow...a little French finesse all around!

French Style icon, Catherine Deneuve continues to inspire...still a fashion muse to many designers, she's a classique beauty and ...one cool blonde!

her 60's look was always minimal makeup (freckle love!) with lined eyes (always!) and neutral lips! She loved a playful up do that continues to inspire today!

Vintage Style Icon: hey there Bridget!
I sometimes wonder who got the paparazzi going in the 50s and 60s...I know Marilyn Monroe would have caused a stir with her every move but on the other side of the pond, I'm sure it was Bridget - the camera loves her!!!...and I think she enjoyed getting her picture taken!

Her iconic look from the 60's always feels fresh...I love pinning images of the French beauty...  * images via my  'vintage life' Pinterest board

Vintage Beauty Style - The London Look

I loved this beauty story in the Spring issue of Lula magazine...
Make-up artist Lisa Eldridge recreated the makeup that was so popular,  1960s dolly look on British gal Edie Campbell.

The look can appear pretty dramatic but still looks fresh 50 years on....
do you like it?
I love the big eyes, coat after coat of mascara and  heavy eyeliner...the silky straight hair with a flirty curtain fringe - Get your Groove on baby!

The layout was a take on the  'how to...' beauty column that young English model Pattie Boyd (bottom) posed for in
'16' magazine back in the 1960's...

Vintage Style Icon: Jane Fonda
Jane Fonda still has it!
Did you see her at this year's Oscars - she looked amazing, on the best dressed list for sure!
but she's rocking it at 74, can you beleive it!?  still working, still expressing, still interested, thats what keeps you young people!
Jane's always had great attitude and lots of energy and so when I spotted these 'young Jane' images via Pinterest, I knew I had to do a Vintage Style Icon post about Jane...

Vidal Sassoon (1928-2012)
I sadly learnt that Vidal Sassoon passed away yesterday...I told my hubby last night and he had no idea that Vidal was a person, he thought it was a shampoo brand (...oh dear man!)...
One of the first 'celebrity' hairstylists,  Vidal was famous for changing the way woman had their hair cut, precision cutting, sleek styles, cropped styles....these styles were all the rage in the 60's along with the change in hemlines, strong eye-makeup, freedom of speech and a new direction for many woman...
Its said  he gave women the freedom to be more natural and at the time this was the case,  before that many  would set their hair in rollers and pin curls before bedtime to achieve their soft flipped look - others would tease their hair to high heavan to get the sexy bouffant , a look i still love!
So lets take a lesson from Vidal and learn to love and embrace what we have...ive been leaving my hair in its natural curly state lately - its still messy and gets frizzy but Im sick of frying my hair with a hot blowdrier and flat irons plus i save time by going 'wash and go'
...im also growing my hair so I can get some weight in my curl and the past fortnight Ive been doing the 'No Poo' method so far so good!

Vintage Style Icon - Pier Angeli
I cant believe I havn't blogged all week!  Its been one of those weeks...we all have them, lets not go there...
but it Friday (yay!) which means its a day off for me.
I've got a lot to do today but I do hope you like my Style Icon post.
Pier Angeli, a beautiful brunette with pretty almond shaped eyes
was born Anna Maria PierAngeli in Sardinia, Italy.
The beauty won film awards in Italy, was spotted by MGM and bought to Hollywood where she stared in many films and even won a Golden Globe for 'New Star of the Year' in the early 50's.
As a young Hollywood star she dated James Dean whom she claims, after many relationships and two marriages, was the love of her life....

Pier's look has that perfect balance of sultry and girl next door, I love this 50's classic beauty -  shiny waves and dark perfectly groomed brows.
Pier almost had a comeback when she was cast to star in Coppola's 'The Godfather' (1972) but sadly just before filming was to start, Pier was found dead in her home at only 39 years of age....another great Star who died way too young

Iconography: Dreaming of a bygone Era

Have you seen the beautiful images of Kate Winslet channelling Elizabeth Taylor ...an A-list movie star playing dress up to look like another famous Star! photographed by Mario Testino (genius!!) and styled by Carine Roitfeld ( so Chic!), the 'V Magazine' photos look amazing! You can see them here.

Its been done so many times before but it never feels tired... Iconic looks and styles refreshed into current times.

I've always loved this shot of Isabella Rossellini portraying flirty Sophia Loren, photographed by Steven Meisel in the early 90's

Va va Va Voom!

California Dreaming
Vintage Style Icon: Candice Bergen
happy Monday everyone!

some beautiful images of a young Candice Bergen for inspiration ...wasnt she a pretty Californian blonde!

We've had a long weekend here in Australia to celebrate the Queen's birthday but not much happening as its cold, wet and miserable! We didnt do much which was fine by me as it gave me a chance to clear out my wardrobe and get ready for Kendi's '30 for 30 Remix' challenge - not an easy task my friends!
Today is the day...
Im actually a little scared but i think Im up for it as I swear I feel like I dress in the dark most days and its always the same old looks!

I had NO idea I own 32 skirts - that is ridiculous!!! Crazy, as I probably just wear the same 3 over and over again...how wasteful of me!
yep, yep Im ready for this challenge! I will list my 30 items soon - stay tuned!!
