Life Lately + Happy Mail!

Oh hello blog! Its been a while.
Here I am...back from a little blogging break where I've been trying to catch up with life.
Sadly, I haven’t had much time for blogging.
The past month at work has been quite hectic and it doesn't look to ease up with year end Financials coming up...the long commute everyday doesn't help this tired mumma!

I was pleasantly surprised on Friday when I received a gorgeous parcel from Kylie at Pink Paddock Store
What gorgeous paper goodies!
I love happy mail.
Thanks so much Kylie, it sure made my day.

So...what else has been happening?
I completed the ‘28 day Low Sugar Lifestyle program’ and feel really good about it!
I hope to continue on this good food journey and I must admit I have loads more energy by eating well and consistently (coffee is not food)
I don't think I would have made it through the past month if I wasn't eating right!
I have a ton of recipes from the program and Pinterest is also my go-to for healthy recipes so there is no excuse to not keep going.   Eating well takes time and planning, its the only way!

I’m currently reading ‘The Monk who sold his Ferrari’…says it all about my life right now.  Slow down…simplify. I enjoyed this post by Pip 'Why slowing down is the new speeding up'
Why is life so hectic??
I’m also in the mood for a good (Winter) clean-out and decluttering session at home too…

I saw ‘Spandau Ballet’ in concert last Friday night – it almost didn’t happen because silly me had the 19th May diarised as the concert date and not the 15th!!!
Lucky for me I checked my tickets Friday morning!
The concert was brilliant!  I’m a huge fan.

I’m eyeing this online course.   Holly’s e-courses are always inspiring with loads of great tips and information but the fact that Leslie Shewring is also teaching definitely has my interest!

I’m planning a blog redesign! … after so many years I’ve decided to move from blogger to Wordpress.
I’ll be getting some design help from Amanda whose work and creativity I love – I’m excited!
So whats been happening in your world, do share!!

Day 15 on #lowsugarlifestyle

Today is day 15 of the 'Low Sugar Lifestyle'  and so far so good!
Lately there has definitely been a war on sugar in the mainstream media but for me sugar is the main culprit to making me feel bloated, irritable and always hungry.
Not only is sugar hidden in so many of our 'everyday' processed foods - I've just concluded that the only way for my family and I to avoid eating the white stuff is to eat clean,
eat fresh and prepare our meals at home.

The 'Low Sugar Lifestyle' is not a diet ...far from it actually...I'm eating a whole lot more than what I used to but what I am putting into my body is fibre rich, filling and nutritional.
... and coffee is still allowed (yes!!) Its been really handy to have the weekly meal plan choices to follow and most are quick and easy to prepare.
Life is busy...I get it, but preparing food doesn't need to take hours.
We also get a daily email full of great nutritional info.

I'm eating for energy and I've seen a huge change already ...
No more afternoon slump or fog brain!  ... because I'm eating so well, I'm just not craving anything sweet - It feels too easy.
I guess it is.
'you are what you eat'...we all know that right?
I made this nutty granola last week and it turned out so toasty and delicious, I'm going to make another batch - thats breakfast sorted! Planning ahead is the way to go...that way there is no chance to get crazy hungry!
I still need to work on drinking more water ...that's my challenge this week!

Low Sugar Lifestyle

The past few weeks I've been off balance and I decided enough is enough - I need to put myself back at the top of my priority list.
I need to start taking care of my health and the first thing that I need to tackle is what goes in my mouth.  I've fallen off the bandwagon...
lately my day consists of a large coffee (or two ) for breakfast, eating quickly at my desk, grabbing a handful of nuts or maybe some chocolate for a snack...just not paying attention to what I'm eating, no excercise, not much time out.
My digestion is playing havoc and I feel like on a wheel spiraling at a crazy pace - I just want to get off!  My energy levels are at an all time low and its obviously because I'm making some wrong food choices.
My body is craving for me to be mindful of what I eat - enough neglect!
Starting on Monday, I've agreed to join in to do
'My Family Wellness' 28 day Low Sugar Lifestyle program created by author, health speaker and nutritionist, Michelle.
I need a little structure and guidance, ready to print meal plans and recipes and am looking forward to a healthy change -  I think this will help kick it all off for me!
I will keep you posted how I go!  I think by blogging about it weekly might help me keep on track as I try to create some changes and good habits.
Wish me luck!

Michelle is offering $20 off the next program and a free download of two recipes - take a look!

a meal in a Bowl...

Hello Monday!
I do hope you all had a beautiful weekend...
I spent Sunday evening planning some 'healthy' meals for the week ahead and I'm going to attempt to do this every Sunday to ensure we all eat well during the week, that the pantry and fridge are stocked.
lately Ive been eating on the go, grabbing processed meat and cheese and throwing it in soft processed bread - that's been my lunch lately....ick!
this has not been nutritiuous or good for my digestion.  Something has to change.
These two meals in a bowl look SO good!
they are definetely on my list to try this week.
recipes here 1- Honey Chipolte Chicken bowl
2 - Warm Roasted Salad bowl

Goodbye January...

See you later January.
Its always a month of contradictions for me and even though its my birthday month and the start of a fresh new year (clean slate!), I seem to be in a post festive season slump most of the month - so it always feels a little slow.
.. but my boys are back at school now and I'm looking forward to the routine and structure to our days I seem to need this in my life, it gives me a sense of purpose and direction.
Whatever helps right?
Lately I've been in a de-cluttering phase.
January tends to set this off...
I'm Spring cleaning in the middle of Summer!
...it feels good though and I'm no where near ready to quit.
I'm tackling little zones and that seems to be the way to go for me as my neat 'piles' can get overwhelming and I just move them from one  room to another!

I started in the kitchen with my cookbooks and recipes - I had culled my cookbook collection but still have recipe papers and clippings all over the place, it was getting ridiculous!  It feels amazing to have things in order!
I also sold some clothes on Ebay this month and donated two bags full of things I keep but dont wear...its crazy how much ''stuff' we accumulate!
I also made the boys keep their most favourite school year artwork/school work so we've got an ongoing collection of things from their childhood - everything else was dumped out!! It feels so good!!
Next challenge which Im kind of dreading is my Craft room but it must be done!! wish me luck!
This year I vow to keep clutter to a bare minimum and to be on top of it!

9 years a blogger

this week I celebrated 9 years of blogging!
Wow! ....that feels a little crazy, in a good way of course.
I wasn't going to acknowledge this blog anniversary, I mean I don't really keep track of posts
(or stats) but I do remember starting my blog in the month of January, so out of curiosity I checked the year...
yep! here I am 9 years later!
It is a bit of a big deal in my little world - I love my blog!
...openly sharing, and being inspired in return.
I lost it once, for a whole day (or two) deleted for some unknown reason....gahhh freak out!!! pleading with Google and anyone who would listen until I got it back (in one piece...phew!)

So many changes in the blogging landscape over the years...many of the original bloggers have disappeared from bloggy-land altogether (Where did they go?)
Blogger burnout,  extended breaks...others feel like blogging becomes some sort of competitive trip with comparisons,  snarky comments and jealousy...this sadly is the ugly side of blogging.
Living a perfect life on the pages of an edited blog is not whats really going on people, we should all know that!

It appears to be so many new blog rules and protocol that's taken blogs to a whole new level, especially those wanting to monetize their blog and work with brands.
...Me?  I still prefer to lead my own path...
I blog when I want and what I want - every now and then I'm curious to listen to blog experts, take a blogging course to be inspired and hear a different viewpoint but must admit I take it all with a grain of salt..
for me there is no inner circle or shortlist that I need to be part of.

This is a little piece of me out there in this huge amazing space we call the 'internet'
- I believe there is room for ALL of us...and there is no cap on creativity, we can all do what makes us happy!
Anyway my blog is still my happy place and if you've ever been thinking of starting a blog, the only blog advice I can give you is find your passion and 'Go for it!!!'

The very first blog that I stumbled on was Posie Gets Cozy...I had no idea what a blog was back then...but her beautiful story telling and images made me come back for more...and even now all these years later, its one of my very favourite personal blogs to read...

2014 vs 2015

So it was my birthday recently and I loved ALL the birthday emails, calls and messages I received!
Then Willie, a Facebook friend, put this message on my Timeline..
Your 2 birthday questions: What is the thing you're most proud of from the past 12 months? And what is one thing you will accomplish in the upcoming 12 months? Have a glorious day!

At first I thought how very clever of him! such a clever way to make someone reflect, think back and then move forward...
I must admit it took me a while to think about the answer to the first question where I even resorted to think,  hey, I didn’t really achieve that much in 2014!?? (enter shock horror)
It was one of those years I think where I just let it all unfold how it wanted to...I was still living my life to its fullest but it actually felt like a few things took a back-step last year.
my hobbies, my paper crafting and Etsy shop, even here, my blog
...I even started an Inspiration Journal but didn't get far (  I do hope to keep it going this year though...)
I mean, I still feel like I did a lot, life was lived, but nothing that stood out to be 'important' and life changing, but that's okay too.
I stepped back and took it easy, which felt nice as well.

...commitment to my FAMILY was totally my priority and my boys are growing up so fast before my eyes...more family time please!
we visited Melbourne last year and I got to spend a day at The Australian Open Tennis event which was fantastic! We also had a beautiful holiday at Rainbow Bay last September - such a heavenly spot!

I did step out of my comfort zone and help out at two Etsy events hosted by the 'Sydney Etsy Team' - lots of planning, good fun and really enjoyable for everyone involved.
I also feel like I accomplished quite a bit at work and had a few ‘A-ha’ moments which helped me along  (a change of attitude makes amazing changes) …personal development and understanding what makes me tick, is something Id like to continue to discover and the company I work for is very into this so I'll go for it...I'm opening up and being vulnerable which is a good thing I guess…being honest with ourselves allows this...
I also followed and completed an 8 week ‘I quit Sugar’ program at the beginning of the year
and a 4 week ‘Heal your Gut’ program in November,
…actually both were not that challenging, the less crap I eat the less I crave it!
The hard part now is being mindful of what I put into my mouth and body, this is the challenge we all face - life is busy and eating well needs lots of planning ahead.
I did an online 'Experiments in Collage'  course which I was so keen to get into but just didn’t devote enough time to…maybe this year I will get more time to be creative.  I hope so.
For 2015, I hope to try to get back into Illustration, especially Fashion Illustration.
Its been so long (insert sad face) and I’m so rusty…but with drawing, just like swimming, the only way to get better is to jump in and do it!
A great quote, ’The camera is an instrument that teaches people how to see without a camera’….so I’ll definitely continue to take more photos this year (instagram is helping too!)
And another thing I want to do (need to do) is to create Photo books as we have a dump of photos on the computer, un-organised and these are family treasuries so need to be treated that way.
I plan to create more, to get involved in creative collaborations (ideas anyone??)
eat well, move more,
and cook more! - this Foodie New Year resolutions looks like a good start!
Have an awesome year ahead everyone!

Get Stuff Done!

how I relate to this!
Its always such a good feeling when something that’s been on your ‘To do’ list is completed… Finished.
Done.

I have a way to go with my list which is very long right now…
I read recently that ‘done’ is better than ‘perfect’ and I must admit the need for perfection, is something I struggle with.
I want everything to be absolutely and exactly the way I’m imagining it to be…this of course takes up lots of time, energy and at the end of the day giving something a go... a real honest go and getting it done feels so much better than it being 'perfect'  (… if there was every such a thing anyway…)

Is it Summer yet?

it sure feels that way...
I've had a little extended blogging break, it seems to get like that during the boys school holidays especially since I also headed back at work after a wonderful week off.
Today is Friday - the start of a long weekend!  Bliss
I had some lovely plans for today ...sadly a eye infection (mine) stopped all the fun in its tracks and we've been spending a leisurely day at home.  We did manage a quick brunch catch-up at a local cafe this morning...

So back to last week.
It was just lovely.  We didn't have perfect weather everyday but that was fine too.  When it got chilly we snuggled indoors and played cards, hung out on the couch, feet up watching movies enjoying each others company.
I took these images during a visit to Byron Bay which ended in a downpour that came from absolutely no where (what do you expect from tropical weather...?) but it sure didn't dampen our spirits...

off to the beach...and a little Q&A

Tomorrow morning we are off on a long drive to Queensland for a week of 'chill out' time - I cant wait and Im hoping for warm days to relax by the pool and enjoy a little vacation!

The lovely Amanda from Kaleidoscope blog tagged me for a fun Q&A so here are my answers - lets go!
What is your favourite smell?
I love fresh floral scents, the smell of Jasmine and Honeysuckle stirs up Summer memories. I also love the smell of baked goods – bread, cakes, pastries…the waft of sugar, cinnamon and vanilla in the air – perfect!

Would you rather live on the coast or in the countryside? Why?
Can I have both please?! An airy coastal home decorated in pale, soothing, watery tones and furnishings is a dreamy interior inspiration but If I had to choose between the two Id say the Countryside.  As a little girl I was obsessed with ‘Milly Molly Mandy’ and Enid Blyton books so I’ve always had a soft spot for the English countryside - a little character filled cottage on a lonely road with a distant forest, rolling hills and an adorable village down the road - how delightful.

What is your go-to routine to unwind?
Hello Pinterest! This is my go-to for time wasting and stress free activity…I also enjoy reading – books, blogs, online and print articles on many different subjects. I have to include another favourite- enjoying a quick (or leisurely) coffee in a Café is a perfect ‘time out’ for me too…

Indoor or Outdoor?
I'm an indoor person for sure! I do love the outdoors but only in small doses…being at home is a real treat and I lavish weekends where we have no set plans and I can ponder amongst my things, hang out in my kitchen and organise my home.
What is the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?
I'm such an optimist! I always see the good in people, some see that as naïve but that’s just the way I'm wired…I have kind things happen to me all the time I'm sure everyone does but sometimes we need to pay attention a little more to see it!

Most prized object (not people)?
That’s a tricky one – Id have to say our Family photos, so many moments captured - family history, memories, nostalgia…smiles and happy times!

Are you an early bird or a night owl?
I'm a night owl trying to become an early bird – the tables have turned as my work has relocated and I'm now commuting by train, a long commute so I'm in bed earlier and up earlier but I’m really enjoying the early mornings – I feel SO alive!

What do you love most about blogging?
Feeling connected and inspired…noticing things I would not normally notice in my day and being aware of how amazing life is! I guess for me its my 'happy place' where I can share my inspirations!

If you were to change your name, what would you new name be? Id go for some fancy name like Clémentine (sweet) or Veronique...(sultry)

What is one piece of advice or value that you want to pass on to the next generation? (children, nieces, nephews, friend’s kids)
Go out and explore - travel far and wide -  I love this 'Never get so busy making a living that your forget to have a life!'

See you in a week friends! i'll still be on Instagram though (cant resist!) so you can follow my adventures there ...

its so Pinteresting...

Todays post is so 'Pinteresting'...okay, that's not a real word but 'Pinterest' is my go-to place where I can get lost in visual beauty and not have to deal with anything else.
I needed to surround myself with goodness today, I had a coffee and lovely (comforting) chat with my sister this morning, I even bought myself some fresh flowers during my brief trip to the shops - an instant pick me up, plus they make my house cheerful too.
..I had a difficult meeting with my boss yesterday afternoon that left my soul a little bruised and whilst I not going to wallow in misery about it, (my rebellious streak says 'gahhh screw it!!') instead I did some reflecting - about whats important to me and not just whats expected of me...
le sigh..breath out...tomorrow is another day

What's caught my eye on Pinterest lately...

June 30, 2014

a minute in June

Happy Monday everyone!
Hope you ALL had an awesome weekend – ours was super busy catching up with friends over dinner, visiting my sweet God-daughter for her 9th birthday and celebrating with our friends yesterday as their boy turned 11.
I also tackled my house chores - nothing new there, it needs to be done!
Andrew and I took turns driving the boys to their soccer games, swimming lessons and Greek dancing class.
Thank goodness I didn’t need to cook but hey! I baked a couple of cakes...and I still managed to relax a little ( just a little)
Life’s been busy...Busy is good!

So here's a little snap shot of June...
Eating / I've been doing  'I quit Sugar'  so I start the day with warm oats for breakfast and I can still have my morning cappucino (yay!).  It does require lots of preparing fresh home cooked meals. Tonight I'm having ministrone soup.
This past weekend, all my healthy meal planning went out the window as there was lots of catching up with friends over yummy food.  Back to normal now.
Reading / I'm reading 'Archangel'  by Maria Menico Sifniades, who is my mum's first cousin ( we are so proud of you Maria!).
I'm also reading 'Afternoons in Ithaka'  a memoir with lovely stories and recipes by
Spiri Tsintziras, an Australian Greek girl living in Melbourne.
Wearing / Lots of warm layers - Its getting chilly peeps!  I've also worn my new gray booties twice now - so painful! Why do we have to break into new shoes and boots?...frustrating that there is no comfort in a pair of new shoes...
Watching / Feeling sad that Game of Thrones, season 4,  came and went SO fast, we are going to have with-drawl symptoms until next year and Monday nights will not be the same!  ha! I am however enjoying 'Fargo' TV series - its so quirky!
There's also a film I'm keen to see -  'Yves Saint Laurent' -  its received mixed reviews but that doesn't put me off!
Wanting / more time in the day. I can never seem to get what I want done!  Ughhh!
Creating / I have a list of things I need to finish - including an online course that ended over a month ago - (see above - need more spare time!) guess that's the problem with 'work at your own pace'...Im slow!
I did manage to find some time to update my Inspiration Art journal.
I actually spotted this article online 'When roller skating ruled the Bay area' ...and thought hey yeah - why is no one roller skating anymore?
I loved my roller skates as a young girl,  with lots and lots of practice I got very good at it -pure freedom!

The weekend and time to Wander...

...a new week already.
Hello Monday.
I had such a busy weekend with no down time so tonight after my boys are fed, bathed and tucked in, I’m going to plonk down on my coach in my warm PJs and not move!
The TV and I will be best buds tonight.
I love taping shows during the week (hello food & décor shows) but Monday night has so much going on...
Let’s start with ‘Game of Thrones’ - the new season is fantastic,  great characters, beautiful scenery, drama, medieval fantasy - I’m a huge fan!
After that it’s another  favorite, this one fuzzy and light hearted,
‘Bill & Giuliana, such a cute couple ...my hubby can’t stand their show ha-ha but watches it with me anyway and then it’s ‘Q&A’ time on the ABC, now that’s always fun to watch (me... shouting at the TV) simultaneously whilst being on Twitter, the Q&A Twitter feed goes crazy real quick.

...back to the weekend!
a normal Saturday morning for me consists of house work and soccer games but this Saturday was a little different -  I attended ‘Blog Society Bloggers Retreat’ hosted by Blog Society and left buzzing with a refreshed outlook about my blog and blogging,  it was so great (more on that on the blog soon...)
After the event I was to meet my husband and kids at the boys Greek Dancing class – I took a different route than normal and deliberately drove into pretty tree lined streets...
it’s amazing how much detail you notice and observe when you have time to Wander...there’s a particular Victorian house that I drive by every Saturday afternoon, but I stumbled across it from a different angle and I had never noticed all the pretty side windows and chimneys on the roof line ...nice and tall and proud in its glory.
it made me think we need to take time out and Wander for a bit.
Yes we do.
Yesterday, we had lunch at our friends,  delicious food and great company – what more do you want in life!
I made cake to take along.
Cake with friends makes me happy!

Life catch up...

Hello friends! It feels like ages...I've been online here and there but it seems like the blog took a back seat the past few days.
The break wasn't intentional, I needed to gather some energy and try to shift this virus.
Not feeling your 'normal' self sucks big time, especially when the demands and obligations of the everyday are still there - kids are back at school now (phew) and only this week I got some down time to relax plus I'm making sure to turn in at a decent time in the evening...I'll get there eventually...

Life Lately
Cooking: making lots of sweet things (read: comfort) I've been thinking of doing a food cleanse to tackle my digestive health - you are what you eat after all ...so I really need to concentrate on 'clean' recipes

Reading: I just finished Leandra Medine's memoir 'Seeking Love. finding overalls' - she truly is a funny, smart and witty (chic) gal! ...now I'm reading 'Fault in our stars' by John Green

Wanting: More quiet time...actually just more time in my day would be lovely thanks!...

Needing: a Haircut...maybe a new hair colour for Winter, highlights and there's some new hair technique called 'Smudging' that sounds interesting!

April 8, 2014

I do hope to start posting more regularly.

So have you noticed the tweaks on my blog?

I've had a new blog layout done, thanks to the ever so talented Katrina whom many of you know via 'The Block' - she is also the girl behind The Media Maid and was such a great help...such a smooth process - thanks so much Katrina, I love it!

...Just a minute in February

chickpea soup   and this delicious cheese bread
drinking / I still start my day with a Green Smoothie, it’s a habit I don’t plan to break !

reading / I just finished ‘Grace: A Memoir’ I started reading it ages ago then got sidetracked but once I picked it up again, I just couldn’t put it down – what an interesting life Grace Coddington has had so far...I took lots of notes whilst reading this as I wanted to Google some of the fashion people mentioned!
wearing / skirts & dresses...its still very warm outside! I need to buy some new jeans but I cant stand shopping for jeans so I've been putting it off - its just as bad as buying a swim suit!
watching / Hubby and I recently watched 4 seasons of ‘Game of Thrones’, 4 seasons of ‘Breaking Bad’ and 2 seasons of ‘Girls’…we were late to jump on the bandwagon but we are now TV addicts!
Cant wait to watch the final season of ‘Breaking Bad’
wanting / a new tote bag…
creating / I started an Inspiration Art journal - my first layout below...
I really wanted to do something creative this year - something just for me...I'll be sharing some of my pages here on the blog going forward.  Im also thinking about starting 'Project Life' - I need to do something with our family photos (and memories)

January 16, 2014

to Melbourne ...and back again!

We're back home...and I headed back to work today (insert sad face!)
What a whirlwind of a trip - we all had such a great time in beautiful Melbourne!
We did so much sightseeing since it was the boy's first visit to the city voted 'most livable' in the world!!!

This time I took along my worn in sneakers so I was prepared for lots of walking and lots of walking we did!!
We also caught trams which are so handy and a great way to explore the city and inner city neighborhoods looking for interesting things to see, eat, photograph and check out!  We even caught up with family too which was wonderful.

...and it was hot!
a sizzling hot Summer!
Our last day in town was a scorcher wow! what a day...we had to check out early from our apartment and with an evening flight we had the day to ourselves and I really wanted to head back to Fitzroy to visit Allison's popUp shop as well as have some lunch here but the heat was unbearable...we drifted around aimlessly seeking shelter in air-conditioned shops and city malls!

but what a vibrant city! - it felt so alive, bustling, busy with tourists from interstate and afar - everyone loves 'The Australian Open' such a great Summer event for a great city! Tennis mania everywhere!

We ate some fantastic food and drank some seriously good coffee...Melbourneites know how to enjoy their everyday!
I cant wait to visit again!

43 ....

I woke up this morning having no idea what day it was and where I was meant to be! I blame all the late nights lately (I’m no night owl) and festivities (I’m no party animal) .
Maybe I can blame my age for this confusion and lack of energy?!
Yesterday I turned 43!

I've been thinking how fast time has passed me by!
….the days are long, the years are short…

Why spend time thinking about it anyway?
Our age is just a number right?  another year in this amazing world!

I still want to learn and find out about so much! I'm as curious as a young child, I'm visual and creative…
I want to connect, eat, feel, love and hold…
I might not have the stamina or strength of an athlete but I still have the energy for life experience, wonder about the world and all that it holds for me.

Hey I am now in the middle age of my life! (and this is why I freak out thinking I might be pregnant every month! eeek)
Middle age - for real?!
…yes real…
Its not that bad, in fact its fabulous....life truly feels great!
Ive always been with the attitude ‘the glass is half full’ – I’m an optimist and always hopeful that life only gets better!
Im SO comfortable with myself right now, my 20s were spent drifting, trying to fit in but still feeling like an outsider looking in, my 30s were spent trying to be great at everything - achieving, reaching always striving to be... (be what?)
we all know there is No ‘perfect’ picture.
My 40’s feel just right (so far) - I’m looking forward to the year ahead with an open mind and an open heart!
Wishing you ALL a fantastic year ahead – let’s make 2014 a Fabulous year!
I don’t really have any set resolutions.
I always want more time to be creative, to eat well so my body and health can thank me later!
I also want to start a ‘Healthy Food & Living’ Pinterest board – we all need a little inspiration.
